In-Service Support Digital Twin Application

The Director General Maritime Equipment Program Management (DGMEPM) supports the life cycle management of all Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) vessels through the provision of maintenance, repair, engineering, inspection and testing, and disposal support services.

The DGMEPM selected to test Imagine 4D’s Digital Twin Framework to enhance data visibility and improve decision-making in Defect Resolution and Engineering Change Management for the Halifax-Class frigates.

Imagine 4D created an In-Service Support (ISS) Digital Twin Application for the Halifax-Class frigate which integrates, an interactive Digital Twin of the Halifax-Class vessel, generated from the Engineering CAD files, with DRMIS data and a wide range of metadata and media. This virtual solution was designed to optimize the Defect Resolution and Engineering Change Management workflows by providing the DGMEPM team with access to the Digital Twin Framework’s integrated development environment to manage and update the ISS Application on their own.

The Imagine 4D solution demonstrated the following benefits:

Amid growing budget, resource, and schedule pressures, managing complex projects efficiently demands smart tools and technology. Recognizing the power of combining digital data threads with immersive visualization, Imagine 4D and DGMEPM partnered to explore digital twin technologies for improving defect resolution and engineering change management.

Why the DGMEPM Chose Imagine 4D

How Imagine 4D Responded

One of the initial tasks was to define and document the detailed functional requirements for the In-Service Support (ISS) Digital Twin Application. This included its intended use cases, remote access capabilities without specialized hardware, and the ability to stay current through automated data re-ingestion. From the outset, it was clear Imagine 4D had two key deliverables:
